Haute Couture Spring 2015: Ralph and Russo

Introducing their latest collection for S/S 15, Ralph and Russo showcased a variety of exquisite Haute Couture looks, romanticised by colour and style.

The classic use of pastel colours and neutral tones conveyed a traditional sense of femininity, typical of Spring/Summer wear. A spectrum of pinks added a gentle touch to the collection and combined with the use of all white, made for an enchanting finish. The intricate floral embroidery and cut out design created a fantasy aesthetic, with subtle beading reflecting the light and highlighting aspects of the gowns. Capes and drapes accompanied with bead-work added a regal twist to the collection.

The use of sheer fabric added a revealing touch, with transparent material loosely draped around the body. The light quality of the fabric created movement which was reminiscent of water ripples and the build up of layering created a petal design, echoing the theme of nature. Focusing on feminine silhouettes, gowns were fitted to emphasise waists with peplum style dresses exaggerating the natural curves. Asymmetrical features and deep necklines drew focus to the centre of the bodice, artificially crafting a smaller waist.

Embodying true couture, Ralph and Russo showcased a spectacular wedding dress for the finale. Descending the lights and using a blue haze to ignite the scene, they revealed a bejewelled white gown featuring a matching veil. Elegant beading added a retro feel to the garment, whilst the updated version of the veil modernised the look.

Focusing on classic finishes, Ralph and Russo’s portrayal of sophisticated femininity has produced a romanticised collection with a strong regal theme.
