Harlem’s Fashion Row: NYC’s multi-cultural arts and fashion platform

In a continuation of Glass’s celebration of the diverse and culture-rich Harlem neighbourhood last month, we now turn to its fashion scene and the illustrious organization Harlem’s Fashion Row.

As New York Fashion Week wound down, editors, influencers, and lovers of fashion alike “wined” down at Harlem’s Fashion Row’s Conversation Series in NYC last week, sponsored by Pandora Jewelry. The series, focused on engaging audiences and influencers in meaningful discussion, was themed Editorial Diversity, and featured a panel of four beautiful, industrious, accomplished women: Freelance Editor and Creative Consultant Rajni Jacques, highly regarded accessories and digital editors Nicole Chapoteau and Danielle Prescod, and innovative womenswear designer Azede Jean-Pierre.

Moderated by HFR Founder Brandice Henderson Daniel, the four women discussed their fallbacks, ascension, and overall experiences in the fashion industry, specifically as women of color. A diverse audience listened on, penultimately closing the event with an audience-lead question and answer. Prescod ended the conversation with a piece of sound advice: “When you think you’re working your absolute hardest, work harder.”
