Glass visits Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa, New York

SINCE its founding in 1988, Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa has become a mainstay for New Yorkers wishing to look fantastic under low-key auspices. Originally launched as a tiny boutique spot on the Upper West Side, the salon now runs as a bustling, full-service operation on the east side of town, with another location just a few streets down inside of the renowned members-only Core Club. As well as NYC, Paul Labrecque can be found at the ritzy Rittenhouse Hotel in Philadelphia, and the salon just opened a space at The Royal Poinciana Plaza in Florida’s Palm Beach. The empire keeps expanding.

Paul Labrecque created his namesake salon after completing beauty school in Miami’s South Beach and subsequently gaining industry experience in London. His ethos for putting clients first and making them feel at their best has worked very well. When Glass recently visited the Upper East Side HQ on a weekday afternoon, the hair salon on the first floor was absolutely heaving with clients. Hair is a big deal at Paul Labrecque – young stylists flock to the salon’s training programme and there is even an award-winning range of hair products that Paul first launched in 2007.

Other than hair, the salon offers a wide range of skincare treatments, specialising in Biologique Recherche facials, as well as body wraps and massages. Glass chose to experience the deep cleansing hydrating facial which included steaming, toning and extractions, not to mention lots of massage. Skin was left feeling smooth and clear. The salon strongly recommends all of the products it uses, advocating that the routine carried out in the salon be replicated at home. Their e-commerce site sells the full range of Biologique Recherche and other premium brands such as Cle de Peau Beaute, Shiseido and Environ. There is also a large retail area within the salon’s lobby, so browsing in person is also an option.

Paul Labrecque’s success no doubt relates to the straightforward approach employed. The salon is a great spot for ongoing beauty maintenance, rather than opulent “me time” – perfect for busy working women who need to keep their various routines in check.
