Chanel watches have been awarded the winners of the Watchmaking Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). Chanel’s Première Flying Tourbillon watch was chosen as the best in the ‘Ladies Watch’ category this month. This is the 25th anniversary of the first watch edition, which has been designed by Chanel in cooperation with the Swiss manufacturers, the engineers and the master-watchmakers Renaud & Papi (APRP SA). The shape of the first edition watch was inspired by the octagonal geometry of the Place Vendôme and echoed in the No. 5 perfume bottle stopper. This was Chanel’s opportunity to allow women to enter into the realm of high mechanical complications.
The new winning Chanel flying tourbillon watch is decorated with the motif of the camellia – an allusion of Mademoiselle Chanel’s favourite flower – and makes one rotation per minute with the petals indicating the seconds. This watch has been praised by the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix, a company that salutes the excellence of worldwide horological production. The Chanel watch will now partake in a travelling exhibition, going to Zurich, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Geneva and Moscow, allowing audiences from all over the world to view and admire this exceptional timepiece.
