28/12/2010 17:50:00 | 1 comment

The Fashion Museum Province of Antwerp (MoMu) will host a brand new exhibition next year, which explores the history of knitwear in fashion.

Unravel: Knitwear in Fashion will present international designer names such as Vivienne Westwood, Maison Martin Margiela, Sonia Rykiel, Mark Fast and Missoni, showcasing contemporary knitted garments and accessories alongside knitted historic couture pieces from Schiaparelli, Chanel and many others. Retrospective installations from Antwerp-based knitwear designers will pay a special homage to Belgian designer Ann Salens.

Unravel: Knitwear in Fashion will run from 16th March until 14th August 2011 at the MoMu, Antwerp.

Miu Miu’s resort collection 2011 looks right at home against the festive backdrop of Miu Miu’s window displays. The Chambre 36 Mistinguett, located at L’Hotel on Paris’s Left Bank, has been taken as inspiration for the festive windows, evoking the ambiance of a boudoir.

A Touch of Summer
15/12/2010 21:38:09 | 0 comments
Talk about being fashion forward - Prada is clearly already in summertime mode with this exclusive preview of jewellery from the SS2011 collection.

The capsule collection of methacrylate jewellery combines Baroque lines and Pop colours inspired by South American musicals. The motifs are taken from the prints and embroideries featured in the summer collection. The figures include fruit, musical instruments and female figures dressed as 'she devils'.

The collection is available in the Prada boutiques on Bond Street, Via Montanapoleone, Corso Venezia and Avenue Montaigne. Prices from ÂŁ140.

Christmas at Claridge's
07/12/2010 20:56:58 | 0 comments

For the second year in a row, John Galliano for Dior has created a stunning Christmas tree for the lobby of Claridge’s Hotel in London. "The majestic beauty of Claridge’s Art Deco interiors never fails to inspire me. I am thrilled to have designed a new tree for Christmas at Claridge’s,” said the designer.

This year’s tree was themed, “Under the Sea”, Dior’s Creative Director explains. “I wanted to create an underwater fantasy, and have mixed pink corals, seahorses, anemones and jellyfish, all glinting like gem stones, swimming amidst the silver leaves. I hope we have created something as sumptuous as its setting and that this inspires a truly luxurious escape and a very festive season at Claridges."

“We are excited to see the return of the legendary John Galliano, who once again this year has recreated the Christmas magic in our lobby,” commented Claridge’s General Manager, Thomas Kochs. â€œFollowing his spectacular tree last year, we simply could not resist this new design, which will keep London talking throughout the season.  Both Claridge’s and Dior are synonymous with timeless glamour and impeccable heritage, and we are thrilled to be celebrating the festive season together.”

The John Galliano for Dior Christmas Tree will be on display in the lobby of Claridge’s Hotel until 5th January 2011.

John Waters at the Southbank Centre
05/12/2010 22:37:24 | 0 comments

 By Tom Ryling

John Waters in conversation with Phillip Hoare at The Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London.

“If you throw enough shit around the room – something’s gonna stick.” So say’s John Waters on his illustrious, multi-disciplined career. Probably best known as the infamous film director and writer of such trash-tastic, high camp classics such as Hairspray, Pink Flamingos and my childhood favourite Serial Mom, he is also a greatly respected author and critic and enjoys a semi-secret life as an incredibly successful visual artist. How does he find the time?

A huge audience has gathered this arctic night in London’s Southbank Centre to hear Mr. Waters discuss his latest work, a memoir of sorts called Role Models which investigates his thoughts on culture and society whilst looking into all of the people throughout his life who have influenced him. His wild anecdotes on characters such as Divine, Little Richard and The Manson Family and on the ‘gay fishing village’ of Provincetown, which alongside Baltimore Waters calls home, kept his fans enraptured. Afterwards the queue for his book signing snaked epically around the venue; each and every person desperate not just for a autograph but for this to be the moment when John Waters might become their new best friend. Well, what more could you want for Christmas?

There is so much to quote from the evening, the man is an unequivocal genius, but I think his view on contemporary art hit the nail fabulously hard on the head: â€œContemporary art should piss you off. Contemporary art hates you!”

ROLE MODELS is published by Beautiful Books and is available to buy now.

Tea Time at MOMO
30/11/2010 19:03:25 | 0 comments

The answer to London’s Arctic temperatures will arrive in the capital on the 6th December. A Moroccan paradise in the heart of the city, the Mo CafĂ© at Momo’s restaurant is launching an exciting new venture: Afternoon at Momo.

In an unusual twist on this most British of traditions, teatime classics such as scones, smoked salmon sandwiches, macaroons and mini cheesecakes will be served alongside Moroccan Maghrebine pastries and apple and saffron tarts. These are served on exquisite antique cake stands, while a wide variety of teas from the North African region will be served in authentic Moroccan brass teapots, sourced personally by owner Mourad Mazouz.

As is the custom, Moroccan mint tea features high on the menu but there is a plethora of exotic teas to choose from: Hamman, a traditional Turkish recipe with green dates and red fruits; Fakirs tea, blended with cardamom and citrus; oriental flower black tea; and the more traditional Assam and Darjeeling varieties. As an extra treat, guests can accompany their delicious afternoon tea with a glass of Champagne or The Momo Special cocktail.

Afternoon at Momo will be served every day between 2.30pm-5.30pm from the 6th December.

Blanc de Blancs, Brut Gold and RosĂ©

Recently voted the number one Champagne in the world in a blind-tasting of over 1,000 brands by international wine critics, Armand de Brignac Champagne is a true taste of luxury. Grown in the award-winning Champagne Cattier chateau of Chigny-les-Roses since 1763, the Armand de Brignac label boasts three cuvées - Brut Gold, Rosé and Blanc de Blancs - aged nine months in oak casks.

Cultivated in vineyards in the prestigious Montagne de Reims territory of the French Champagne region, Armand de Brignac is created using traditional hand labor-intensive methods. Inspired by AndrĂ© CourrĂšges, the distinctive metallic bottles feature two Ace of Spades insignias and four pewter labels. The entirely handcrafted bottles are housed in a black wooden case embossed with the Armand de Brignac royal crest.  The velvet-lined box is completed with an engraved nameplate.

Armand de Brignac Champagne is available from Harrods, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols.
