you were full of anticipation that it was the funfair after school

and you wore the dress; thinking, he'll like this - like me in this

but he didnt show up at the party

and the day you thought you'd lost the doll museum catalogue you'd bought in Jutland

and you must never lose that

because it holds things

inside

the dolls

the dresses the pages memorized

and now you are home

you've taken the dress off

it's on the floor

and you look around

pick up a book, get into the bed

the book is sweet and funny

and at 2am you look at the phone and think

what if he rang now
