When one thinks of staying in London, spacious and comfortable are not necessarily the adjectives one would use to describe most accommodation. The myhotel Chelsea, however, seems out to change all that, marrying charm, luxury and convenience together in one cozy but indubitably elegant hotel.
Situated just a few blocks from the South Kensington tube station, the myhotel Chelsea is tucked away in a quiet neighbourhood but is anything but anonymous. From the moment you check in, it is clear that this hotel is a rare gem. The myhotel Chelsea is somehow at once designed for business, leisure and family travellers, which is a difficult balance to achieve.
Part of the appeal of the myhotel Chelsea is its warm, almost cottage-y feel. With its well-sized rooms, simply pretty décor and luxurious amenities, one has a sensation of being at a country in, only with all the immediacy, convenience and excitement of a big city. The Superior Double room, in particular, was big enough for my active 2 year old to play and run around in, which is incredible for even the biggest hotel suite.
Traveling with children is never easy, particularly in a city like London known for its cramped spaces and busy, busy people. But, traveling internationally with a 2 year old for London Fashion Week by oneself is a whole new category of crazy. Between show schedules, a nanny coming and going and the sheer uphill battle of getting a jetlagged toddler to sleep and eat unfamiliar food, my entourage can be challenging, even for the most family-friendly hotel.
Here, the myhotel Chelsea went way beyond, providing a friendly, personalised experience that is becoming sadly rare in today’s busy, competitive hotel market. The front desk always answered on the first call; they carried our bags in from the cab and to our room; and they answered all my bizarre questions (“would it be possible to get access to a microwave?”) with much patience. Indeed, when my 2 year old’s much-beloved blanket somehow went missing, the staff kindly launched a major search from top to bottom, though sadly came up empty.
For those traveling without children, of course, the myhotel Chelsea is likely a completely difference experience. The hotel’s lounge restaurant, three5, has gorgeous tapas and an equally delectable wine list, perfect for an early dinner or late night meeting. The rooms are also nicely situated and perfect for getting work done or sleeping, which is, of course, a happy function of a hotel.
When comparing hotels, location and good price never should be overlooked – and the myhotel Chelsea scores highly on both fronts. It is around the corner from the Stella McCartney boutique and other shopping delights. It also is an easy walk to the South Kensington tube station and in a relatively active area should you wish to catch a cab.
