Including Sassen as a part of the ongoing creative partnerships between Tomas Maier, Bottega Veneta Creative Director, and renowned visual artists, the Italian luxury goods brand have aimed to capture the spirit of women’s and men’s S/S 2016.

Describing the latest collection that has brought about the new collaboration as a tribute to outdoor life and natural surroundings where colours in nature emerge with energy and individualism the campaign has been shot at the Jardin d’email by Jean Dubuffet, the sculpture gardens of the Kroller-Muller museum in Otterlo, Netherlands. The models photographed for the new campaign include Mica Arganaraz and Sven de Vries, who were directed by Sassen to perform sculptural poses and work their bodies into striking and unusual positions.

In addition, Sassen, who joins the list of celebrated photographers that have previously shot a Bottega campaign such as Nan Goldin, Pieter Hugo and Juergen Teller, was also influenced by childhood experiences reaching back to her upbringing in Kenya. For this campaign this ranged from exceptional people, colours and the extraordinary contrast of light and darkness.

Of the collaboration with Sassen, Tomas Maier has commented “you can’t help but be drawn to her images, her atmospheres and the distinct sense of mystery she creates.  I admire her bold experimentation and how she breaks the rules yet never loses her balance”.
