Aquascutum AW14 Womenswear Collection

Aquascutum will always be synonymous with Britishness, but as of late there has been a slight trend emerging each season at the brand famed for unifying the United Kingdom’s famous tailoring with fashionable modernity, a new take on high-fashion Britannia. That high society fashion is steeped in conservatism of course, but this time around, standout colour-drenched floral prints with cherry-bomb attitude make bold remarks, softened, only slightly, by more solitary berry hues, cut in a number of varying forms.

Staple “storm coats” ring the usual bells, that of circa. 1851 origins, yet become attractively and autumnally reworked in double-faced cashmere overcoats and chic simple black dress coats. It’s collections like these that make it alarmingly clear that insensible layering shouldn’t be the first resort when we approach the chillier stages of the year, Aquascutum have it all wrapped up in one stylish sentiment.

Textile composition is key, as is customary, setting many of the pieces from the AW14 collection apart in ways that have the potential to both be dressed up and dressed down at the drop of a hat. It’s all prime picking from then on in, especially for the most style conscious of young London urbanites, whom should certainly make every effort to take note of the lighter silky shirts, textured jackets and easy-going slacks early on if  this is a collection that you are already getting a niggling to snap up fast.
