The true autumn temporal season is upon us, thankfully allowing the sartorial cognoscenti to rack in what gems last year’s AW 2014 shows foretold. In stores and online now is the anticipated Alexander McQueen AW14 collection, offering pieces that follow suit from the catwalk’s best looks. Take the AW14 show’s gothic Scottish plaid, translated on the racks into garments such as the checked bomber jacket, the tailored tartan single-breasted coat, or the classic McQueen skull tee printed in gray scale checks. And there are now-available looks begot from the geometric runway garments, pieces including pullovers printed with receding linear arrangements, and wallets and bags printed in black and gold, or black and white symmetric designs. It’s all very mesmerising, very Rubik’s (… cube — not Anja).
Of course, as per usual with House of McQueen, there’s overtones of the nocturnal throughout the characteristically gravitas collection. There’s a dark, brooding autumnal color spectrum and a vertiginous design motif. The grace, though, in which McQueen designs are likewise fluent, relies on the structure, design, tailoring, and accessorizing of the current line. Hues of gold, too, add grace to the characteristic brazenness of this season’s retail line-up. There are gold slippers, golden-capped umbrella handles, golden trimmed wallets, and bronze lamé collared tees.
The footwear, following the collection’s part-time bent for the casual, spans slipper to slip-on, brogue to combat boot, all sleek and chic but, true to its intent, ready to wear. The accessories, as one final accouterment to the digital sales floor of the “.com” destination, are to be gloated upon. Zippered cufflinks, golden skull band rings, and tartan fall wraparound scarves all exemplify the broad gamut of the new AW14 line, now available to be browsed and shopped in-stores and online here.
